How we handle deck & pergola painting
Outdoor wood needs to be clean and dry before it takes stain or paint. We wash the surface, let it dry, sand rough spots and set loose nails. Then we apply a stain or coating that fits the wood and how much sun it gets.
We have painted large shore-house pergolas with crisp white posts and dark beams, and we bring that same finish to backyard decks and porches. Railings and spindles get brushed by hand so every side is covered.
